Bovine Genital Trichomoniasis

چکیده
BOVINE GENITAL TRICHOMONIASIS is a disease of cattle characterized by difläculties in breeding, early abortions, temporary sterility, and pyometra (accumulation of pus in the uterus), without an accompanying fever. The causative organism, technically named Trichomonas foetus^ was first observed in association with genital disease of cattle by Mazzanti {Sy in Italy in 1900. He found it in the genital tracts of two cows and one heifer that were slaughtered because of permanent sterility. He considered it to be the cause of the sterility and named it Trichomonas uterovaginulis vitulae. The literature contains no further reference to trichomonads in connection with genital disease of cattle until 1925, when Drescher {3) reported finding them in pure culture in a bovine fetus aborted at 7 months. This rather striking 25-year lapse was probably due to the fact that since Bang's discovery in 1897 {2) of the organism causing infectious abortion in cattle, the idea that genital disease of cattle manifested by abortion, uterine infection, and sterility was Bang's disease, or brucellosis, dominated the thinking of veterinarians in this field. Only when breeding troubles occurred in the demonstrated absence of BriweUa abortus were they attributed to other causes, such as coital exanthema {9).

Spatial and temporal epidemiology of bovine trichomoniasis and bovine genital campylobacteriosis in La Pampa province (Argentina).
The venereal diseases bovine trichomoniasis (BT) and bovine genital campylobacteriosis (BCG) cause economic losses in endemic areas like La Pampa province in Argentina, where beef cattle are usually managed extensively. This study used data compiled under a Provincial Programme for the Control and Eradication of BT and BGC (PCE) to determine the spatio-temporal distribution of these diseases an...

Tritrichomonas foetus is a flagellate protozoan and the etiological agent of bovine genital trichomoniasis [1], which is an infectious venereal disease. This parasite is usually found associated with the mucosal surface of the urogenital tract in females or the male preputial and penile membranes. In females, the clinical manifestations may include abortion, with repetition of estrus at irregul...

Papanicolaou-stained cervical smears taken from 203 female patients with either gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, or candidosis were examined for the degree of inflammatory change. The results from these patients were compared with the results of smears taken from women who had no evidence of sexually-acquired infection after full assessment in the clinic. Gonorrhoea and trichomoniasis were associate...
متن کاملExperimental genital trichomoniasis in the squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus).
The squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus) has been proposed as a model for urogenital trichomoniasis in man, but has not been accepted as such because of the purported presence of naturally occurring vaginal trichomonads in this animal. The study published here shows that these are easily eradicated organisms of intestinal origin, which eliminates the potential confusion created by them. In additi...
